She is beauty (Shaping Your Eyebrows)

Before I get into my beauty fix of the day I want to give a big THANK YOU to all of you. I really appreciate that you take the time out of your day, week, or month to stop by she-blogs. I work hard to uplift, inspire, and unite women all the time and I really appreciate you.
I am about to start putting my feelers out to try and find a few sponsors so that I can have a she-blogs launch party in NY this summer. I would really like to do a few parties in maybe three different cities so that I can meet and network with some of you. For all of my planning I need to get an idea of where some of you live. That way I can determine the size of the venue and what cities to target that have the most readers because I want to make sure that everyone that wants to come can come.
So if you get a moment please shoot me a quick email and in the subject put your city. You can send it to ally@she-blogs.com.
PS. Don’t forget to stop by the second edition of the she-blogs 1st Thursday fashion feature tomorrow…so excited!

Ok so I think that we have all encountered a woman or two or three in our lives with a case of uneven eyebrows. And the first thing I think is why didn’t they go to a professional. I think that some women get so comfy doing it themselves when they didn’t know what they were doing in the first place and it ends up being a bit of a hot mess and no one tells them. Other women have mastered the art of trimming, shaping, and brushing their eyebrows so that they look like perfection.
I used to get my eyebrows done about once a month until I started doing them myself. Every now and then I would notice that I had created a slightly uneven mess on my face too. Then I got fed up and said I am just going to let them grow in and just do a little cleaning up here and there. It’s not easy getting the perfect brows for your face. Here are a few tips that may help the next time you are cleaning up your arches.

The PERFECT Brows

1. Buy a good brand of tweezers. It’s a good investment and it is less stress because the good ones actually grab the hairs every time versus slippage from bad tweezers. I personally like tweezerman. Mine are pink with a little light.

2. Brush the brows upward using an old toothbrush or eyebrow brush. Using small hair scissors very carefully trim the excess hair above the top of your natural arch that has been brushed up.

3. Examine the shape of your brow. This part is extremely important because you want to make sure that you don’t look surprised or angry or sad just because your eye brows have been shaped wrong. LOL Your brow should begin at the inner corner of your eye, peak at the center (the iris of your eye) and end at the outer corner.

4. When you begin make sure that you are holding the tweezers at a 45-degree angle. Begin by plucking the really stray hairs that are in random places first. Then pluck the stray hairs below and above the brow line. Try to grab the hair mid way instead of at the tip and pull in the direction of the hair growth to make sure that it comes from the root and doesn’t break. Whatever you do don’t over pluck. It’s better to have more hair to work with if a professional has to fix them than not enough.

6. If you notice that there are a few areas that need filling in then find a great brow shadow that matches your brows. Using an eye shadow brush, gently brush on the color in the area it’s needed and then do it once all over to even it out.

7. Once you are finished gently brush your brows horizontally towards your ear to give them a smooth clean look.

Xoxo

I do not think I am brave enough to shape my own brows! However, I am very close to giving it a shot because time and time again I leave the salon disappointed by how my brows were waxed. Personally I prefer thicker brows, but I am not naturally blessed with those - so I have to be very careful as to who lays their hands on them or they will come out looking way too thin. This post makes me want to try and do it myself to get the results I want. Also - I could not agree more with the importance of a good pair of tweezers. I think that is why I have gotten frustrated in the past because I ended up pinching my skin way more than actually plucking hair! Thanks for the tips Ally :)

With your instructions, I’d be confident enough to give it a try on my own. Every blue moon, I’m persuaded to have this done by my hairstylist. I guess I just don’t see what the big deal is because when it’s done for me, I don’t look different. I guess eyebrows aren’t anything I pay attention to unless it looks like someone has caterpillars and wooly bears (ugh, yuck!) on their forehead, and that’s usually old men. I’ve only had it done twice in my life. And it hurts!

I have been wanting to try shaping my own brows, but am terrified of messing them up!! I used to get the shaped regualrly, but I felt they were becoming thin. So, for the last 6 months or so I have just been letting them grow on their own. When I get the courage to shape them myself, I am going to use your detailed instructions!
