She is Inspiring (Michelle Obama Updates :)

Hey Folks

Today I am dedicating this post to Michelle Obama.
With my crazy schedule I haven’t had time to keep up with my favorite family. One of the many things that I adore about President Obama and the lovely first lady is that they are hands on. They don’t just tell people what to do but they roll up their sleeves and do it too. I am a HUGE believer that actions speak louder and just to actually see this amazing couple participate in so many community events and open up the white house is a true blessing.

When I read that Michelle was kicking off a volunteer campaign in San Francisco I was sooo happy.
This new initiative called United We Serve, was announced by President Obama in a video message last week.

To launch United We Serve, Michelle joined California first lady Maria Shriver and local volunteers at Bret Harte Elementary School in San Francisco.
The playground is being refurbished and will include an edible garden with a farmer’s market stand where kids and seniors can sell vegetables to raise money for the school.

Ya know…we live during a time where many people are out for self and even do favors only because they will receive one. But in my opinion true service is when you help people (if you can) without expectation. That is genuine. When you help a person or volunteer just for the good of the cause. Below is what I pulled from whitehouse.gov…

WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, June 22nd, First Lady Michelle Obama and a large number of Cabinet secretaries and senior administration officials will kick off the United We Serve summer service initiative by participating in service projects across the country. United We Serve is an extended call to service by President Obama challenging all Americans to help lay a new foundation for growth in this country by engaging in sustained, meaningful community service. The United We Serve summer service initiative begins June 22nd and runs through the National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11th. The initiative will be led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency dedicated to fostering service in communities across the country.
During this summer, the President is renewing his call to all Americans to identify needs in their communities, engage in meaningful service to create change – and stay engaged with those projects long after September. To create new service projects, to find service projects in their communities and to share stories about projects that are making a difference, Americans can visit the Corporation for National and Community Service’s website, www.serve.gov.

First Lady Michelle Obama Kicks Off White House Music Series with JAZZ

The First Lady kicked off the White House’s music series with a Jazz Studio event.
The point was for up and coming musicians to meet the jazz greats of today. There were almost 150 young musicians and a performance in the East Room by Cuban musician Paquito D’Rivera. He was accompanied by an ensemble of emerging jazz artists.

THE FIRST WHITE HOUSE GARDEN IN 60 YEARS WOW!

On the South lawn of the white house twenty-six elementary school children joined Michelle with shovels to help her produce an herb garden on the White House grounds. The first harvest is expected by late April. Assistant chef Sam Kass says some produce will be cooked in the White House kitchen and some will be given to a local soup kitchen where Obama recently helped serve lunch.
