She is Inspiring (WEEN Awards)

Happy Monday family,
So Sorry for no post on Friday…things were super super hectic and I tried ;(
I think I mentioned that I was in DC to spend time with family, hang with my friends for Black Caucus, and for my BFF’s baby shower on Sunday. Needless to say I had a fun filled packed week and I just wanted to share some of the details with you.

xoxo

THURSDAY…

So on Thursday I started out the night at a networking event and then went to club “Park” with my girl Alison. I also was pleasantly surprised to run into my girl Chevonne from High School. I literally had not seen her in forever. I am glad that we linked back up again because she is so sweet!

FRIDAY…

Friday was crazy…lol

On Friday I was riding in the car with my mother racing to Macy’s because she insisted that the original dress that I wanted to wear to the WEEN awards that night wasn’t dressy enough.
After trying to explain to her that it was an entertainment award show and that I didn’t have to be in a gown, I finally gave up ☺. And I’m glad I did because I ended up getting these royal blue suede platform sling backs that I am now in love with.

So at that point I was riding in the car attempting to do my Friday blog post and had only two hours to find a dress, attempt to straighten my hair (which surprisingly took me only 45 minutes), and try to get someone to put some eye shadow on my eyes since my makeup application skills are zero and I knew there would be a pink carpet…

So anywho I went to the awards with recording artist Mycah (love her!). The pink carpet started at 5pm and we arrived around 5:45. The awards took place at the (RIAA) Recording Industry Association of America.
I got there and walked the pink carpet, talked a little to press, and mingled with folks that I knew that came from NY.

The venue was absolutely perfect and was decorated so nice. They had pink flowers adorning the tables and a beautiful tall floral centerpiece. They had pink drinks and yummy hors d’ oeuvres.

Right before the awards began I introduced myself to Vivica Fox and I told her that I would love to feature her on my women’s empowerment blog. She said that she reads a few blogs and asked me the name of mine. When I said “she-blogs.com” she then said “Ohhh I have heard of she-blogs”….I was shocked and happy at the same time LOL…Love it!

MC Lyte and Terrance J hosted the awards and they also honored Shanti Das (EVP of Urban marketing for Universal), Maria Davis (HIV/AIDS Educator), Vivica A Fox (Actress), Hill Harper (Actor/Author), Pat Harris (VP of McDonald’s Corp), and Malinda Williams (Actress).
They also gave scholarships to two young women towards their college funds.

And then! Valeisha announced that she had been appointed to the Obama administration. I have so many emotions about that. I am thrilled, proud, excited, shocked..I mean WHAT! She gets to not only work with Obama but also take part in helping to positively affect our lives as the new Deputy Director of Public Affairs in the Department of Commerce. You go girl!!!

I just want to give a huge shout out to the WEEN founders Valeisha Butterfield, Sabrina Thompson, Lauren Lake, and Kristi Henderson and all of the WEEN board of directors and planning committee. You have all done an amazing job. Keep up the great work of inspiring women to be their best!

FRIDAY NIGHT…

Then later that night my homeboy Mitch was the best! He was very accommodating to me and my WEEN fam and we partied at “The Park” that night until the wee hours of the morning.

It’s nice to know a promoter that does more than just his normal parties (which are amazing by the way) but he also sits on the board for a few non profits in DC. If you get a chance check out his site and support him… www.dtnation.com

That’s fabulous that you were able to attend the WEEN Awards. I learned about it late but would have loved to cover it (although attending as an invited guest like you were is even better!). I’m going to link back to this post so that people can read more about the event…and your adventures in DC!
