She is Inspiring

Happy Monday!

I hope you had a great weekend. I am actually proud of myself because I took the entire day off Saturday and went to a cookout, a party, and hung out with friends. Needless to say I am now exhausted lol. Many of the ladies I know in New York have a gazillion fab hustles and Nickie Robinson aka DJ Nickie is definitely one of them. She is a lawyer, DJ, and publicist….definitely a woman to look out for.

Nickie I wish you all the best!
xoxo

She-blogs: Who is Nickie Robinson?
Wow, I know myself very well. I am either really nice or bitchy (only if you do something unreasonable). I am a Gemini, what can I say? (laughs)

She-blogs: What inspired you to start GoodGirlPR?
Well, I hired a publicist to jump start my DJ endeavors, and they weren’t  good. I was doing everything myself. Plus, being a publicist is an alternative to practicing law.

She-blogs: How did you come up with the name?
It was a play on Bad Boy-it’s the opposite.  Hence, the name GoodGirlPR.

She-blogs: Were you always interested in PR from a young age?
I think so. I was always planning events whether it be a house party in my backyard to an art walk.

She-blogs: In a celebrity driven world where many people now a days think they are “PR” worthy, how do you decipher what clients to take and which ones not to take?
What makes someone “PR” worthy. I am still trying to work  out this issue.  I want to help everyone.  After a year and half in the business, I want to work with positive clients who appreciate my company and the fact that we have the instant ability to help their brand.

She-blogs: There are so many PR companies. What do you feel makes GoodGirlPR stand out above the rest?
Honestly, GoodGirlPR is different than other PR companies because of the educational foundation of my team.  I have a law degree and attended the best schools.  I went to one of the best all-girls, college preparatory schools in the U.S. called Marlborough, and it gave me confidence.  I can talk and relate to everyone regardless of race.  I also worked on Wall Street for four years. If I can assist Deutsche Bank with managing its initiatives and fostering efficiency, I should have no problem helping my clients.

She-blogs: What is your average day like?
I work out an average of two hours a day, and I go hard the rest of the day until I’m tired. I have been told that I work too much so after a two-week hiatus in Denver, I am going to attempt to work on my work life balance.

She-blogs: Who are some of your clients and where can people find out more about your company?

Our clients run the gamete. The list is extremely long, but if people are interested in knowing-email info@goodgirlpr.com for our press kit.

She-blogs: I ADORE Dancing! It is absolutely my favorite thing to do. I heard you were also a dope DJ? How long have you been doing it and why do you love it?
I wanted to dj since 1994, but, it seemed like people frowned upon it because of my educational background.  I was told that I was too smart to be a DJ.  In 2007, I decided to do something to make me happy, and I have been spinning since that time. I love music.  Music has always been my therapy, and now I can share my musical ear with everyone.

She-blogs: Tell me about one of the biggest career obstacles you have faced and how you worked through it?
I think the only obstacles that I encountered were the one’s that I created for myself.  Confidence and consistency is the key to success.  I think in my 20’s I had to work out issues within myself and embrace my talents-my talent being my ability to study, understand, plan, and execute. I can teach myself how to do anything.

She-blogs: What advice would you give to a woman who is reaching for her dreams? Do you suggest internships or finding a mentor?
I think a mentor is great to have if you actually listen to what they are saying.  Women in their 20’s tend to “know it all.” I highly recommend women looking up to woman who is older than them, following in their footsteps, and learning from their mistakes.

She-blogs: Do you think it is important for women to stick together and genuinely help one another?
Of course! And, if you encounter women who do not believe in this point, then you don’t need them in your circle.

She-blogs: Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself as a mother, wife, and the owner of GoodGirlPR, another PR firm (stay tuned), and Robinson & Robinson, LLP (me and my cousin’s law firm).

She-blogs: Name one place that you have never been that you want to travel to and why?
Brazil. There is something exotic about it.

She-blogs: What is your mantra on life?
You get what you put out.

She-blogs: When was the last time you laughed so hard you
couldn’t breathe?

I laugh that hard everyday. I am very silly.

She-blogs: What do you do to stay balanced?
I am still working on this…

She-blogs: What do you like the most about the way you look?
You are really putting me on the spot, right now.(laughs)  My hour glass figure.

She-blogs: What do you like to do for fun?
I like to run (remember I am still trying to work on this work balance thingy laughs)

She-blogs: Is there anything else you want the she-blogs readers to know?
I would like to give some advice:
Never let anyone chip away at your self-esteem.  Surround yourself around positive people that uplift you.  In life you have choices, and you have ultimate control of your life.
