She-blogs: Who is Crystal L. Bass?
Crystal L. Bass is a fun loving, caring, kind and gentle mom, daughter, sister, aunt, writer, mentor, entrepreneur, landlord, and government employee.
She-blogs: What inspired you to be a writer?
Writing is my passion. I was told that I was good at it far too many times to ignore it. I was inspired by many readers of my work throughout elementary, middle, high school and college.
She-blogs: Tell me a little about your new book “Dark Clouds: A Charm City Family’s Struggle”
Dark Clouds: A Charm City Family’s Struggle is a novel full of family drama. The story is loosely based on my life and the lives of many people close to me. The book deals with issues that are often swept under the carpet. At the end of the day, the story is about empowering women to take control of your destiny, no matter what your age. The story is a perfect example of being a victor and NOT a victim.
She-blogs: What sets this story apart from others and where did your inspiration come from?
I think that the story is REAL and it is relevant. Even though it was set in the 80’s, these are things that we hear on the news every single day. I love that the story is unpredictable. The plot is a long roller coaster ride with many twists and turns.
She-blogs: What made you decide to launch Crystal Clear Publications…why did you want to self publish versus trying to get a book deal?
I did not shop my manuscript around trying to convince anyone that it was worthy to be published. I was convinced, so I published it. The thought of creating my own legacy was very appealing to me. I embraced the idea of having a hand in every aspect of my very own project. I really didn’t want anyone telling me what to do and how to do it-I wanted the freedom of expressing things the way I see fit. I want to use Dark Clouds as a platform to spin off to other business ventures.
She-blogs: What is your average day like?
I am up at 4:30am to report to my day job for the federal government. I work very long days. After work, I am grinding for one of my many businesses. I am usually in the bed by 11, writing the sequel to Dark Clouds, and sleep by midnight.
She-blogs: What are five basic tips and advice you have for other writers?
Five basic tips are: Get started! Mark Twain once said, “the secret of getting ahead is getting started.”-Keep a notepad with you at all times-write what you know-write at least 30 minutes a day-Just write! Do not edit the first draft.
She-blogs: You are a mother, a motivational speaker, and an author among many other fab things. How in the world do you successfully balance it all?
I balance everything by staying focused on what’s important. My priorities change daily. Each night, I write down a plan for the following day. My daily goal is to stay on task and not let anything take me off my purpose.
She-blogs: I know a lot of busy successful fab women in NY and all of them balance love and dating very differently. How do you do it?
Fortunately, I have a man who is as busy as I am. We make it work. We steal a few moments at bedtime for pillow talk. Other than that, we MAKE time for date night once a week.
She-blogs: Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I see myself as self-employed. I will be producing my own plays and movies based on my novels. I will also be publishing other authors who share some of my same passions.

Do what you love and never work a day in your life.
She-blogs: What do you do to stay balanced?
PRAY!

I love my warm and very welcoming smile.

I travel for fun.

I am Happily in love.
