" A TRIBUTE TO A MENTOR”

Everyone has a person they consider to be their role version, whether it is a specialist athlete, a famous music performer, a historic figure, or just a person in their life that may be close to these people who has mentored them along the way. Marines are fortunate enough to, in some cases, have many mentors and role designs. Individuals who have well guided them as young men to become amazing commanders, and incredible marines. People who those Marine corps will never ignore and to whom will always play an important role in the decision-making skills of those Marines. I actually, like a number of other marines, have gotten many mentors that have helped build the Marine I have become. Nevertheless the one gentleman that stands apart above all other folks was my personal first team leader, Sgt (Sgt. ) Mckay. He can always be my personal greatest advisor for many causes but typically because of his ability to always lead by example, to settle stern yet fair, and to always set his Marine corps above himself.
Sgt. Mckay was an incredible leader and I believe a massive part of the reason was because he always lead by example. He would hardly ever tell a Marine to complete something this individual wasn't willing to do himself and this individual especially more than likely tell them to refrain from giving something that this individual in turn would venture do him self. He would go walking the barracks picking up trash by himself, and once he saw a marine within the catwalk he would yell up something along the lines of, " Well!! You'd better get your asses down here and help me personally clean this kind of mess up! ” I cant remember once that this individual didn't set the example for all of us to emulate.
I had been recently informed by one of my junior Marines after that last deploy that one from the biggest reasons why they look up to me is because I i am able to be rigid but usually stay reasonable. When he told me this I actually immediately considered Sgt. Mckay. I thought of how I used to feel the same way about the man.
